Meeting Recap

  • News and information
    • Oracle DB upgrade slowly moving forward, beginning with moving some NAIP imagery out
    • NAIP 2017 collection still underway
  • Post NDGIS Conference
    • Overall BSC location was OK, breakout rooms should have been set up as theater seating instead of classroom
    • Survey respondents liked the facility, workshops and presentations received 'good' and 'excellent' ratings
    • Next conference likely in Grand Forks
    • Could the university system take over the conference?
  • Post Full GISTC
    • People didn't move around enough to the tables, but we tried
    • Would have been nice to have had more time
    • More coordination/communication is needed - perhaps in the future we could determine the availability of decent web-based tools
  • Governor's GIS Program Report
    • This is an annual report, it is routed through the CIO
    • We are moving towards an infographic
    • Pending a few tweaks, the GISTC is OK with sending this out
  • Main Street Initiative
    • Nothing new to report
    • The GISTC continues to support this as needed
  • Geospatial Data Act
    • Last discussed in 2015
    • There has been some recent activity on it, from NSGIC and from MAGIC
    • MAGIC has recently sent a letter to the chair and members of the Coalition of Geospatial Organizations, urging that a compromise be found
  • Executive Order
    • The current EO is need of an update to reflect the splitting of the Department of Health to create the Department of Environmental Quality and to update some language including the State Mapping Advisory Council which has not been active for 8-9 years
    • Discussion on renaming the existing GISTC to reflect changing technology though its function and membership will remain unchanged
    • In addition, create a statewide coordination council
    • After some discussion, the GISTC agrees on the desire to update the EO but to test the concept of a statewide council by having a couple of meetings first to help gauge the interest and participation level
    • A draft of a new executive order will be developed for review and discussion
